What Is CD APY?

APY stands for annual percentage yield. It represents the effective annual return on a deposit after compounding is included. A CD APY is useful for comparison because it shows the actual rate you would earn over one year, even when interest is compounded monthly, daily, or on another schedule.

In APY mode, this calculator uses the formula Ending Balance = Principal × (1 + APY)t. The APY is already treated as the effective annual return, so the calculator does not apply a second layer of compounding. This keeps the estimate accurate when you only know the APY.

How to Use the CD APY Calculator

Enter your initial deposit, select APY as the rate type, enter the APY, and choose the CD term. The calculator will immediately show your estimated ending balance, total interest, and a growth chart. You can also compare how different APY values change your result.

If your bank quotes a nominal rate instead, switch to Interest Rate mode and choose a compounding frequency. The rate and term comparison tables work in both modes, so you can see the impact of each input on your estimated return.
